SUPER Sardinia- Red and White on SALE
The wines of Pala are an authentic expression from the southern half of the island with mostly sandy soils that are sometimes almost white in color. In the last ten or so years there has been a great deal of red grapes under-vine that are indigenous to the island.
This estate offers a large and varied portfolio of mostly indigenous grapes at very attractive price points. You can count on these wines to be approachable, fresh and well made. Pala awards authentic tastes of Sardinia that are both affordable and easily available. If you want to drink new exciting wines with a multitude of layered flavors and aromas, these are the wines for you.
2018 Pala * Vermentino di Sardegna I Fiori
$18.99btl or $205.09cs
This is a solid and fragrant wine that always performs nicely each time I taste it. It is a consistent wine that seems less bothered and affected by vintage variation. However, the 2018 Vermentino di Sardegna I Fiori was born in a very favorable growing season. In appearance it is light, luminous and brilliant. It’s zesty green flavors and citrusy acidity that are classic characteristics of Vermentino. The wine closes with delicate tones of grapefruit, kiwi, dried sage, honeydew melon and crushed mineral. This is the quintessential summer white.
2014 Pala * Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva
$30.99btl or $167.34 per six pack
The 2014 Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva shows warmth and concentration. This dark and rich expression delivers a pretty succession of black fruit flavors with plum, prune, moist earth and mild touches of exotic spice and the wine flows freely with soft waves of dark fruit, spice and tobacco on the finish. The wine is rich and substantial in terms of mouthfeel with enough girth and grit to pair with game meat or spicy grilled sausage.
2014 Pala * Bovale Essentija Isola dei Nuraghi
$29.99btl or $161.94 per six pack
This is the most curious and unique of Pala’s new releases. The 2014 Bovale Essentija is made with a rare and relatively unknown grape that is native to this sun-kissed island in the heart of the Mediterranean: pre-phylloxera Bovale vines grown in sandy soils with volcanic layers deep underground. The vines range from 40 years in age to a whopping 120 years old. This earthy red opens with aromas of leather, tilled soil, ripe black-skinned fruit and a whiff of barnyard. The aromas carry over to the juicy palate along with mature Marasca cherry, crushed black olive and dark spice. It has a rustic charm but it’s also smooth and savory. DO NOT MISS THIS WINE!
