Stunning White Burgundy

Back when I first got into the wine business, Pouilly Fuisse was the first White Burgundy everyone discovered. It was on every wine list in every restaurant I worked in back in New York City. And because if its popularity, the quality suffered. When I got into the wine business, I would counsel clients to buy other wines from the Macon like St Veran or Macon Village as they were just as good if not better and cost WAY LESS. But things have changed. You had Dominic Lafon, Domaine Leflaive and other top wine makers start looking to the Macon for expansion and quality there has improved dramatically. And no one has raised the level more than Domaine du Roc des Boutieres. The wines are stunning and have changed the way I view Pouilly Fuisse.

I tasted this wine yesterday, only 10 six packs were available
and I bought them all on the spot.
They will arrive next week.
Grab your six pack before they are all gone.

Roche de Solutré
In the village of Pouilly, in the middle of the Pouilly-Fuissé AOC lies Domaine du Roc des Boutires. The winery’s name draws on both terroir and tradition: its proximity with the Roche de Solutré, an emblem of the appellation and a testament to the extraordinary geologic richness of this vineyard; as well as the domaine’s settlement in the very heart of one of the best terroirs of the appellation – “Aux Bouthières.” In the ancient French vocabulary, a “boutière” was a secondary road that mule skinners used for the transportation of oils and wines in remote parts of the country. The vineyard of Domaine du Roc des Boutires is only 3 miles west of the ancient Roman track of Via Agrippa, on a very small road which now leads to the village of Solutré, the hills of the Mâconnais and the plains of the Charolais.
Every name here has a story!

I have never been one to sing the praises of Pouilly Fuisse……until I tasted the wines of Domaines du Roc des Boutieres. Instead of being the most expensive region in the Maconnais, they have turned their wines into direct competitors with the more expensive wines of Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault, so high is the quality o9f this Domaine. A gorgeous golden straw color that is both vibrant and bright is followed with a wonderful bouquet of fresh ocean scents, wet stones, flint, white peach and ripe pear. The palate is dazzlingly complex and seems to combine the best qualities of Chablis and Puligny Montrachet. The finish seems endless and is tinged with citrus zest, green apple and a beautiful freshness that demands you take another sip. This Domaine has raised the bar in the Macon. GRAND VIN!

Exclusively coming from the terroir ‘En Bertilionne’a tiny 1.4 acre vineyard of limestones with shoals of marl, and very deep chalk.. The ‘vielles vignes’ 35 plus years old, of Chardonnay, located at the southern end of Burgundy, are planted between 250 and 500 meters in altitude, higher than the others AOC from Bourgogne. Thus, they provide both maturity and freshness to the wines. Only 2000 bottles are made!
