Bordeaux lovers we have a Must Buy Wine for your collection. From one of the best Chateau in Bordeaux, Pichon Longueville Baron, comes one of the Top Second Wines, 2016 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron. This Chateau actually makes two Second Wines, the other being Tourelles de Longueville. But the Griffons uses superior old vine fruit and is a class above the Tourelles.
I am happy to offer this rarity in both 750 and Magnum format. his wine has arrived and is in our cellars now.
Beginning in 2012, Chateau Pichon Baron began producing another 2nd wine, but of higher quality than the Tourelles de Longueville called Les Griffons de Pichon Baron. This wine is made from the same old vine plots that go into the Grand Vin. Since it costs a fraction of the First Wine, it represents one of the great values in Bordeaux today.

Of course I opened one of these as soon as it arrived.
The color is deep and dark. Simply beautiful to look at. The nose bursts with intense black fruits, minerals and cedar. This wine explodes on the palate and screams “I’m from Pauillac” with its flamboyant style, yet still maintains balance and grace. The tannins even at this young age are smooth and fine. The finish coats the mouth and lingers quite long. It has the complexity of a Classified Growth. WOW!

The 2016 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 48% Merlot matured in 60% new oak. The harvest was between 26 September and 18 October, and it represents 30% of the total yield. It has a very pure and detailed bouquet with blackberry, briary, cold stone and graphite aromas. This seems to meliorate in glass. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannin, a Griffons that is nimble and agile, the finish very precise with an almost clinical graphite-tinged finish. This is superb.
