Must Try/Best Buy
The whole staff is sitting here marveling at the complexity and stunning quality of this simple Cotes du Rhone Blanc from Domaine la Berthaude. It’s like drinking an expensive Condrieu from the Northern Rhone at a fraction of the price. I tasted this wine 3 weeks ago and it has finally arrived. They offered me 10 cases I bought them all instantly. And now I have 9 cases to sell as one is coming home with me. Don’t miss this one!
So… here’s the secret… “Maison la Berthaude” is a label done for our friend Craig Baker. It is produced by Domaine Roger Perrin under the guidance of 5th generation winemaker/owner Xavier Rolin. An homage to the district of Chateauneuf where the vineyard is located (Berthaude) and the large round “pudding stones” (“galets”) that make the region so special.

This wine is a stunning value. A blend of 85% Viognier and 15% split between Grenache Blanc and Marsanne, this Baby Condrieu will be a welcome change from the usual Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Made from vines that average 60 years of age this is a serious wine and at an everyday price The nose is filled with fresh lychee nuts, apricot and melon. In the mouth there is good richness and spice and a stony mineral quality. The finish is fresh, clean and dry. Brilliant! My new House Wine.
