Domaine Henri Gouges
Domaine Henri Gouges is the benchmark in Nuits St Georges. And on a recent walk through the Old & Rare Room, I spotted some gems from the superb domaine that should be in every Burgundy Lovers cellar.

4btls*2013 Nuits St Georges Chenes de Carteaux 1er Cru
WPW$48.99btl/$587.88 per case
(Burg Hound 89-92)
There is an unusually seductive texture to the round and surprisingly supple flavors that also retain good delineation on the dusty and mouth coating finish. This should reward up to a decade of cellar time yet be approachable after only 5 to 6.
5btls*2013 Nuits St Georges Pruliers 1er Cru
WPW$86.99btl/$1043.88 per case
(Burg Hound 91-93) SWEET SPOT OUTSTANDING
There is good power and punch to the very round but imposing medium weight plus flavors that possess a sleek muscularity before culminating in a lightly mineral-inflected, palate coating and impressively persistent finish. I very much like the complexity though it’s clear that this very firmly structured effort is going to require an extended stay in a cool cellar. Classic Pruliers.
6btls*2013 Nuits St Geroges Les St Georges 1er Cru
WPW$127.95btl/$1535.40 per case
(Burg Hound 92-94) SWEET SPOT OUTSTANDING
A ripe and extremely fresh nose exhibits perfumed aromas of cassis, earth, spice, plum liqueur and the classic Nuits animale character along with a background touch of wood. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the velvet-textured broad-shouldered yet refined flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality onto the balanced, suave and mouth coating finale.
4btls*Nuits St Georges Clos des Porrets 1er Cu
(Burg Hound 93) “OUTSTANDING”
A notably ripe nose of cassis, black cherry, humus and earth possesses fine complexity. There is outstanding volume and mid-palate concentration to the powerful and mouth coating middle weight flavors that exhibit a subtle minerality on the sappy, dusty, energetic and beautifully persistent finish. This is a classic Nuits that is built-to-age and will need it.
10btls*2015 Nuits St Georges Pruliers 1er Cru
(Burg Hound 90-93) “OUTSTANDING”
The velvety, round and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors also possess excellent volume and mid-palate concentration with a very high level of phenolic maturity to the firm supporting tannins on the moderately austere and rustic finale. This too is very definitely classic Nuits in character that will require plenty of patience.

(Burg Hound 92-94) “SWEET SPOT OUTSTANDING”
There is excellent volume to the succulent yet quite serious medium weight plus flavors that exhibit more evident minerality on the energetic, precise and youthfully austere finale. In contrast to the Vaucrains, this excellent effort is likely to require most of my predicted aging curve before it is accessible.
