Classic Bordeaux for a Pittance
When I offered this wine back in March there were only 5 cases available it sold out INSTANTLY! 10 more cases are arriving this Friday direct from Bordeaux. Don’t miss out this time. Reserve yours today.
We just unloaded a truck full of wine direct from Bordeaux. As we unpack the wines, we of course crack open a bottle to “educate ourselves”. So when we got to the 2005 Chateau Peyrabon we unanimously decided it is a standout both in price and quality. The only problem…..there are a mere 5 cases available. Don’t wait to pull the trigger on this one!
The 2005 Peyrabon transcends its appellation and offers outstanding value, challenging some of the Grands Crus Classés for a fraction of the price.
It is a cru bourgeois property in the appellation of Haut Medoc in Bordeaux. The chateau has vineyards in both Haut Medoc and Pauillac, although the Haut Medoc vineyard is one of the largest holdings in that region at over 70 acres. The location of the parcel is several miles inland from the Gironde estuary, lying within a mile of the Pauillac commune. The gravelly soil imparts classic “Left Bank” minerality to the wine.

There is nothing like a perfectly aged bottle of Bordeaux. And when it is priced at less than $25 per bottle it gets even better. I’m sipping on this as I type . The wine is still a deep, ruby red color with just a hint brick on the rim. Aromas of cedar, fresh tobacco, wet stones, dried herbs, currants and plums fill the glass. In the mouth it is plump and seductive with lots of black cherry fruit that is dense but not jammy. This finish lingers quite long with unfolding layers of complexity that build with time in the glass. This is a real treat for Bordeaux Lovers!
