Chateau de Puligny Montrachet

Back in 2012, Domaine de Montille acquired the Chateau de Puligny Montrachet which included 50 acres of prime vineyards. This was a major acquisition for the Domaine de Montille, It takes the Domaine to an actual level of where it was in the 19th century with 86.45 acres of vineyards. After the restructuring, Domaine de Montille, including Château de Puligny-Montrachet, will own and farm 86.5 acres of vineyards, of which 49.4 acres are premiers and grands crus. This will place Domaine de Montille among the significant estates in the Côte de Beaune.

*2016 Bourgogne Blanc Clos du Chateau
Ch de Puligny Montrachet
$27.99btl/$302.29 per case
(Jim Sirna 94)

This wine just has it all for a very little price. Aromas of white peach, baked apple and ripe pear mix with subtle oak, vanilla and ocean scents. In the mouth the character comes through with all the glory & power of Puligny wrapped around the steely core that defines this village. There is a saline quality that comes through that gives complexity and vibrancy to the wine. This wine punches way above its price.

*2016 Chassagne Montrachet Village
Ch de Puligny Montrachet
$55.99btl/$335.94 per case of six
(Burg Hound 89-91) OUTSTANDING

The lush and moderately powerful flavors possess both good volume and mid-palate concentration before concluding in a lingering and complex finish. This isn’t elegant but it offers much to like for a villages level wine.

*2016 Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres 1er Cru
Ch de Puligny Montrachet MAGNUMS
$210.00 per magnum/$630.00 per case of 3 mags
(Burg Hound 91-93) “SWEET SPOT OUTSTANDING”

A whiff of wood toast is present on the pretty mix of acacia, green apple and essence of pear-scented nose. The medium weight plus flavors are both dense and intense with fine minerality and evident power where the intensity really builds from the mid-palate to the driving, long and balanced finish. This isn’t nearly as refined as the Chalumeaux but there’s a bit more here.
