Cellar Treasures

It is extremely difficult for us mere mortals to get their hands on mature burgundy unless we bought the wine young and did the maturing …Unless you shop at West Palm Wines. Below is a list of wines with perfect provenance having never left our cellar from the time of their release. Finding recent tasting notes on many of these wines was difficult as they are just not available anywhere. Where this occurred I had to of course step in and open a bottle. God I love my job!

3btls*2002 Gevrey Chambertin Cazetiers Bruno Clair
(Burg Hound 90) “OUTSTANDING”

Despite bordering one another, this is completely different in character with much earthier, less elegant dark fruit aromas plus round, rich and intense light to medium weight flavors that offer terrific complexity and first rate length. A different expression yet lovely in its own right.

3btls*2005 Nuits St Georges Les Chaignits Georges Mugneret
(Burg Hound 92)

An exceptionally nuanced and broad aromatic spectrum features complex notes of anise, iron, earth, smoke, jerky and a certain animale hint on the mostly red berry fruit aromas that introduce texture and mouth coating flavors underpinned by admirably ripe structural elements culminating in a stylish and almost opulent finish. A very pretty yet serious effort that is more Vosne than Nuits in character in 2005

3btls*2002 Gevrey Chambertin Clos Prieur Trapet
(Wine Advocate 90)

Red cherries and roses can be discerned in the pretty aromatics of the 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur. Its plush, satiny-textured personality delivers terrific mouth-feel and seductive waves of creamy cherries as well as raspberries. This medium-bodied wine is sexy, supple, and long.

2btls*2002 Morey St Denis Cuvee des Grives Ponsot
(Wine Advocate 89-91)

From above the estate’s “home vineyard” of Monts Luisants, the Ponsot 2005 Morey-St.-Denis Cuvee des Grives exudes ripe black raspberry and cherry dipped in cocoa powder, comes onto the palate with liqueur-like, mouth-coating, creamy richness, and reveals stony, chalky, persistent underlying minerality reflecting this wine’s sheer density. One hardly misses the lack of a fresh-fruit edge .

*2btls*2005 Chambolle Musigny AC Comte de Vogue
(Burg Hound 90) “OUTSTANDING”

An extract of dark berry fruit nuanced with intense floral aromas combines with rich, full and naturally sweet flavors that possess excellent concentration, volume and plenty of sap that renders the firm tannins to the background. This is one of those exuberantly delicious wines that you feel like drinking yet there is real depth and weight. An excellent villages that will age.
