Caparzo Brunello OWC Six Pack Deal

Elisabetta Gnudi is an important force in Tuscan wine. The owner of Borgo Scopeto in Chianti Classico, she purchased Caparzo in 1999, soon followed by the acquisition of the adjacent property, the venerable Altesino, in 2003. I have always been a fan of her range of products and the honest pricing associated with them. This set of a mixed release case of the La Casa offers a good number of excellent vintages for a great price.

Vigna La Casa is an incredible single-vineyard Brunello, one of the first estates in Montalcino to do so, and is always a top value. Todays offer is even more than that. The MIXED CASE in OWC deal is the lowest online. The 2004 alone sells for $115btl and that’s the lowest price. If you had to collect these gems separately, you would have to spend well over $500. But, act fast, inventory is limited.

2000 Caparzo * Brunello di Montalcino Vigna la Casa
92pts RP, 93+pts JS

This excellent estate has turned out two large-scaled, tannic, backward Brunellos that appear to be among the more concentrated wines of the vintage. The 2000 Brunello di Montalcino La Casa is one of the few opaque, saturated-colored Brunellos of the vintage. The nose offers up intense aromas of ripe berries, tobacco-tinged, leathery, smoky, roasted herbs, and grilled meat. There is huge flavor extraction, massive tannin, extraordinary density and richness, and a monster finish. This wine is considerably thicker and richer than the Brunello di Montalcino (green label) bottling, and in need of 5-7 years of cellaring.

2003 Caparzo * Brunello di Montalcino Vigna la Casa
93pts RP, 94pts JS

The single-vineyard 2003 Brunello di Montalcino La Casa is simply gorgeous. Ripe dark fruit, spices, leather and sweet toasted oak all flow from this ample, generous wine. The plumpness of the fruit is beautifully balanced by the wine’s structural components, which show an added level of richness over the regular bottling. Caparzo’s La Casa is a very satisfying glass of Brunello in 2003. Readers won’t want to miss this wine, which is one of the standouts of the vintage.

2004 Caparzo * Brunello di Montalcino Vigna la Casa
94pts RP, 95pts JS

The single-vineyard 2004 Brunello di Montalcino La Casa is a sweet, layered offering that blossoms on the palate with notable elegance and class. The wine continues to build, showing terrific volume and density as its dark fruit accompanies the tannins all the way to the finish. This is an intense, brooding Brunello in need of bottle age, but its qualities are impossible not to admire even at this early stage.
