93pt Gran Reserva Rioja Under $20btl
Hidalgo may be based in Sherry, but this foray into Rioja is a success. This is a small family winery in Sanlucar, where they started making wine as far back as 1792, represented by Javier Hidalgo, the sixth generation of the family. Former wine maker from CUNE (CVNE) in Rioja Victor Urrutia, has done an incredible job with this first vintage under this label with vineyards also formerly part of CVNE so you know the geography is unparalleled.

2012 Hidalgo * Tradicion H Gran Reserva
EMAIL CASE DEAL- $207.00cs ($17.25btl)
The wine that represents the traditional and serious reds from La Rioja, the 2012 H Gran Reserva is a classical blend of Tempranillo with 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo that matured in barrel for two years. It has an old-world serious Rioja nose, with dark spices, ripe fruit, something balsamic and a round, full-bodied palate within the straight and serious style of the wine. 2012 was a warm year, but the wines are fresher than those from 2011. This has fine, slightly grainy tannins with good grip. A textbook Gran Reserva and an incredible value.
